5 Summer Tips for the Coffee Addict

 Tips for coffee addicts

With summer now upon us, time is fast running out to shave off those extra pounds and get your body into “beach-ready” shape in time for your holiday.

But fear not, coffee-drinkers! We are here to give you the low-down on the five simple things you need to do to look and feel your best this season.

1. Drink More Coffee

Although existing research into the impact of coffee on health has tended to rely on epidemiological data, there is a growing body of evidence to suggest that moderate consumption of caffeine can improve athletic performance. What this means is that your morning cup of joe may just be allowing you to put in that extra mile on the track or squeeze in an additional set at the gym, making it easier to get in shape for summer.

2. Drink More Coffee

As strange as it may sound, adding butter and coconut oil to your morning coffee is believed by many to improve brain activity and boost energy levels. Those who have jumped on the bandwagon claim it tastes just as good, if not better, than regular coffee and doesn’t contain the harmful casein proteins found in milk. If you want to try “butter coffee” for yourself, you can find a recipe here

3. Drink More Coffee

Counterintuitively, drinking hot coffee can actually help you stay cool when the mercury rises. According to Anthony Bain, a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia, thermosensors in the stomach become overactive when we drink hot coffee, causing us to sweat. This, in turn, lowers body temperature and allows us to feel more comfortable in the heat. So next time, ditch the iced latte in favour of a steaming mug of your favourite java.

4. Drink More Coffee

While it may not help you to feel cool, drinking cold-brew coffee will certainly allow you to look cool this season. The latest trend to hit the coffee world, cold brew refers to coffee which is steeped in cold water for several hours to produce a sweet, low-acidity drink that serves as a refreshing pick-me-up on a warm summer’s day. Check back here in a couple of weeks for our video guide to making the perfect cold brew at home.

5. Drink More Coffee

Espresso-based cocktails are another big thing to watch out for this summer. More sophisticated than a ‘Vodka and Red Bull’, these creations marry drink and caffeine in a way that is not only delicious but socially acceptable. So, if you want to be “on-trend” this summer, try ordering an Espresso Martini on your next night-out - just choose your bar wisely if you don’t want to receive any strange looks.
