Arabica

Arabica coffee beans originate from Ethiopia and the plants prefer to grow in tropical climates closer to the equator. You’ll find that some of the best Arabica beans come from India, Brazil, Columbia and Guatemala. They are aromatic and offer a sweeter mouth feel in a cup of brewed coffee. 

As Arabica coffee beans are some of the most widely produced beans in the world, you’ll typically find these on offer from many leading coffee brands. 

Robusta

Robusta coffee beans typically grow in Africa, India and Indonesia and come from the Coffea canephora plant. While not as common as Arabica beans, you’ll find that Robusta coffee beans from this plant make up around 30-40% of the world's coffee population. Due to the hardy nature of the plant, these beans are more resistant to pests and will survive harsher conditions than other beans. 

In comparison to Arabica beans, Robusta offers a higher caffeine content and a strong and deep flavour. Typically, those who enjoy a stronger coffee will prefer to use Robusta coffee beans. These beans are smaller and rounder than Arabica beans.
