At Discount Coffee, we’ve always believed that great businesses are built not just on great products, but on great people and strong leadership.

Recently, one of our former team members reflected on his time with Discount Coffee which explores how leadership is practiced in real-world environments and how experiences shape leadership development.

David joined Discount Coffee in 2020 and quickly progressed through the business, starting in a Sales and Warehouse role, moving quickly into Sales Manager, and eventually becoming General Manager. During his time with the company, he played an important role in helping the business scale and improve operational performance.

One of the most significant milestones during this period was the relocation of the company to a larger facility in Glasgow, which helped support a significant year-on-year increase in revenue over his 4 years and allowed the business to expand its operations and serve a growing customer base.

Alongside this, several operational improvements were introduced to help streamline the business. These included implementing a paperless packing system, improving fulfilment processes, and strengthening internal team management practices. These changes helped the team operate more efficiently while maintaining the high standards of service our customers expect.

The experience also highlighted the importance of team leadership and customer focus. Through strong leadership and the collective effort of the team, Discount Coffee achieved Feefo Gold awards in 2021 and 2022, followed by the Feefo Platinum Trusted Service Award in 2024, recognising consistently excellent customer feedback. We have since gone on to win our second and third Feefo Platinum Service Awards. 

At Discount Coffee, we actively encourage a culture where teamwork, initiative, and leadership development are part of everyday work. By giving people the opportunity to take ownership of challenges, contribute ideas, and support one another, team members can grow both professionally and personally. Experiences like these help individuals build confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn how to work collaboratively to support the continued growth of the business.
